Joseph and Dennis’ Suitcases & Background
Joseph was a past client of Ian Robinson Photography. Indeed, Ian had been appointed to cover his recent Christening in Sale.
Joseph’s parents had collected their Christening coverage, when it was suggested that they would like to book a portrait session for their little boy. We discussed potential options, including the old brown leather suitcases that we have.
These cases are dear to me, I have possessed them for nigh on twenty years now. Prior to them being in our possession, they were the property of my old employer, mentor and friend, Dennis Hylander. They were regularly used at the Dennis Hylander Studio for portrait sessions of predominently baby boys. When Dennis made the decision to retire, he offered myself the cases, along with a number of other props too. Amongst these props were his traditional canvas background, he’d handpainted this personally. I’m privileged to have it in my studio today, it’s one of my most treasured items.
I suggested to Melissa that we use the suitcases for Joseph’s portrait session. Immediately she was sold on the idea and a date was pencilled into the diary.
Our date arrived and Joseph was a little star, he was so well behaved and he performed impeccably.. Just look at that cheeky smile, he’s just too cute! 🙂
All the while I was taking these images, my thoughts were with Dennis and the great times that I experienced in his studio… This was made all the more poignant, with the realisation that when I looked in the diary, it was actually Dennis’ birthday too.
