Two weeks ago, Ian Robinson Photography received a call, enquiring about our pet photography service. Harvey, a rescue Springer Spaniel was 10 yrs old and had been receiving treatment for Lymphoma. He was now at a stage where his treatment was no longer effective as his condition had stopped responding to the treatment he had been receiving.
Harvey’s Mummy had booked in a pet portrait session for the Monday, one week on from our initial telephone consultation… A couple of days had passed, I then received a further call. “Hi Ian, would it be possible to bring the session forward to today (Thursday). Harvey is on good form today and I think it would be a great opportunity to photograph him while he is in such good spirits.”
“Of course I can. I will need an hour or so to prepare the studio and then I will be ready for you.”
“That’s fantastic, thank you Ian.”
Harvey bounded into the studio, he was full of energy and mischief, tail wagging and brimming with excitement, along with his bag of toys… I was looking forward to this!
I always allow time for our pets to settle into the environment, which allows both myself and our subject to familiarise ourselves with each other before starting.
Thursday Portrait Session.
It was agreed that I would initially photograph on a traditional style of background, then to follow onto a white background, if the session went well.
I always endeavour to take 3 to 4 differing angles of our pets. Ideally we take a full length standing, a close head shot, a sitting angle and perhaps a selection of shots lying down. I honesty, if I capture the full length standing, this is for me the key shot, anything else is a bonus.
This shoot went so well, to the point where we agreed to go to a white background. As you see, we really did manage a fantastic selection.
Saturday Portrait Viewing.
Mummy and Daddy called into the studion a couple of days later on the Saturday following… I was informed that Harvey hadn’t been himself for the last day or so and it was comforting to see the great selection of images before us. All of these images posted are the images purchased.
Monday Phone Call.
I received a phone call on Monday Morning, it was Harvey’s Dad.
“Hello Ian, I have some unfortunate news, to inform you of Harvey’s passing yesterday. I also want to thank you for the amazing selection of images that you captured of our little boy.. We will treasure them forever.”
